As I type this I have the odd beep-beep on my cellphone as someone sends me a Happy New Year sms.
I have decided to forego that procedure this year of wishing everyone on their cellphones for the New Year. After all, I did wish those I wanted to a wonderful 2010 when I wished them a Blessed Christmas season not a week ago. To send the same message to the same people borders on overdoing it in my books.
So as we close down the last day of the last year in the first decade in the 3rd millennium (did I get that all right?), here’s thinking back to what 2009 held in store for me and mine.
I admit to being a very lucky, happy and blessed person. Maybe those who know me aren’t so lucky and happy (to know me now), but I honestly feel very blessed and content with my life, my better half, my work, my family, my friends, my house, my kids, my garden, my studies, my future? I don’t want to throw this down your throat, but in the end I surmise it could be because I am a happy person and don’t get upset much, at least certainly not with trivial stuff around me. It hasn’t always been that way, of course not, but I think my life turned out pretty well and I am grateful and appreciative of what I have today, and I am not in any way referring to material things, though having a house, job and work are foremost of my appreciation. Being happy does not mean I don’t have pain in my life, I have several loved ones whom I miss daily, but I know they want me to live my life today because I can. So I certainly do my best in this regard.
I imagine my husband also is happy with his other half, that is myself. We have a good marriage that seems to have grown more solid over the years, the vacation once again brought me to realization how many other jackasses there are out there that I managed to skip. Not that I need such justification, as I said before, I appreciate my hubbie everyday. I think he’s wonderful and he knows such too. My studies went well, my work went well, I am appreciative of the work I have, albeit one that will make me work tomorrow and the whole weekend to fit in my year end deadlines, but the fact I have one to go to every morning is not something one should take for granted. I am not 100% appreciative of that silly car of mine that has given me problems for the past 18 months, nor the service team from Toyota, but I am appreciative of the fact that soon, very soon I will dump the car on their doorsteps and go buy myself another one. From another supplier perhaps. I must please have extra patience because apparently my car is the only piece of dogfood (insert any other word so desired) in the whole country with the problem that’s why they can’t solve it. I would therefore be more appreciative if some engineer could join Toyota in an endeavour to resolve this problem in 2010 for me. I am also looking forward to a wonderful Dakar 2010 starting soon and hopefully a very more exciting F1 season than we had in 2009. Maybe a few horses sprinting for the finish from the beginning, something not so very boring….
Anyway, here’s to a 2009 thoroughly enjoyed my side, and wishing you all an even better, prosperous and very healthy and happy 2010. May the English win the soccer world cup just to cheer all the Boertjies up. I think we need such cheering up in this country and I swear the Brazilians and Italians have won enough World Cups to last a while!
Take care and have a good one.

End of year run-out-of-steam-blog
I admire those that can blog something everyday. I apparently, at this time in my life it seems, cannot.
It's like I have no words left. None that makes any sense and none that will not bore the dead cockroaches out of you.
So, I will jut hang around, cut loose and read the blogs and some books I have lined up. Currently busy with "The Pilgrimage" by Paulo Coelho (have picked up and put down a time or two, it's interesting ,then boring, then interesting...also busy reading "The Bourne Identity" by Robert Ludlum, and finally reading some magazines, trying to get my house spring cleaned in a certain manner, slowly does it...
I can admit to looking forward to 2010. Towards the end of 2009 my life as I organise it, came into being. By this I mean I have been struggling for a while to find one system of organising my life, work and personal loads, and ensure that I get somewhere. Usually the systems are complicated and I run out of steam. Such an example, though excellent, was too complicated for me was "Getting Things Done" aka GTD per David Allen. He even wrote a second book called "Making it work", I haven't yet tried his second recipe, his first, though ecellent was very time consuming and complicated, thus one could run of steam quickly, which is what happened to me. (Anyone know of or successfully implement GTD in their lives? )
I did however, manage somehow in the latter half of 2009, to work up a system which is relatively simple, easy to implement and maintain and is already showing me some results. So I am looking forward in 2010 to making sure that system works for me. This may sound funny, perhaps for those not interested in organising their lives, or those who have no need to do such, but I have a demanding work schedule and trying to balance my family time, own personal self time, and even study time with demanding work hours, I need such a balanced organised system.I seem to have found such, and with it working so far, comes 'peace of mind' too. So that part of my life is also getting balanced.
Suffice to say I am a Libran, we do believe in balance.
:))
Have a wonderful weekend. relaxing, entertaining, whatever you want it to be, enjoy the cricket perhaps, and also the last week of 2009. Make it a good one.
Keep safe

To Dream
Every great achievement was once impossible until someone set a goal to make it a reality.
Lewis Carroll’s famous masterpiece Through the Looking Glass contains a story that exemplifies the need to dream the impossible dream. There is a conversation between Alice and the queen, which goes like this:
“I can’t believe that!” said Alice.
“Can’t you?” the queen said in a pitying tone. “Try again, draw a long breath, and shut your eyes.”
Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said. “One can’t believe impossible things.”
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
When you dare to dream, many marvels can be accomplished. The trouble is, most people never start dreaming their impossible dream.
Who remembers this song, only recently sung by Susan Boyle that made her an overnigt success? It still gives me goosebumps.
Enjoy, and keep dreaming!

Vacation at last
What can I say?
It's that time of the year. To recharge, rest, relax and come home ready for the end of the year and New Year challenges.
May it thus be.
I could do with a good break.
We're off to the quiet spots of the E Cape beaches. En route we'll be taking 'the road less travelled', not the main highway, so hoping to see a few interesting little towns we haven't travelled through before.
And I intend to swim in the sea every day .........
Ciao ciao till later, around 21st/22nd December
