Tanzania

Old mansion left standing over the last 30-40 years, now in a dilapidated state but still used...

Roadside scenes - roadstalls...typical business in Tanzania rural areas

Piece of Tanzania from the air...shacks and shacks...the normal residential mode...

Monument to the former slave colony in Zanzibar

Typical Tanzanian dhow (used for fishing)

So I'm off Saturday to Tanzania for a week's work. We have a factory in Tanzania that I visit once every 2-3 years, do some training for Budget and Month end accounting on the SAP (software) system. It's usually an enjoyable trip but:

1) It's not as good a trip as to Switzerland of course!!

2) Because you can only drink tea/coffee or bottled water or other bottled beverages

3) One has to have malaria injections, pills and rub yourself every evening with anti-moz spray and wear long sleeved and long pants in the evening to keep the little bugs from your blood.. (not tomention sleep under the nets)

4) There are only one or two lovely restaurants..the rest of the time you're very careful what to eat so as not to get food poisoning....this is Africa after all...

I was there last in 2008, the people we meet and work with are lovely friendly people and will go out of their way to treat you with kindness. I even learn a few words Swahili when I'm there to their utter delight!!

We are staying in Dar (es Salaam) for a few days...might get to explore the town, last time we didn't have enough time though we did explore Zanzibar, this time it's only work work...

The only thing that bothers about Tanzania is the state the people live in , albeit they seem happy...real African shacks all over...some expats and a few Tanzanians living in style, the rest live in the usual poverty associated with this area of Africa............ hey the African feeling is amazing, the true smells and sounds of the markets etc...but the lifestyle is not otherwise western...

Above a photo or two of our last trip, will let you see some photos in a week - only return weekend 30 31/October

Till I return, take care
LG
