My word for 2011

Today is the 2nd Sunday of this New Year.

Certainly the cliched "Time flies when you're having fun" seems to apply to me.

After much thought the past 2 weeks I have decided this year, besides my studies, I will be dedicating myself to applying the word "Simplicity" to my life.

My life certainly needs the concept.

I've read a book or two on decluttering. Nice stuff. Alas, they were unable to convince me to go beyond the point of reading. Perhaps I had a busy schedule. I wouldn't think of blaming the poor authors for my lack of action.

My house isn't a mess. I can invite you in to enjoy a cup of tea anytime of the day without having to jump up and clear or clean the living room. We don't have excessive possessions that lie around the place or chock-a-block the cupboards. It is difficult to describe. I feel I am one of those souls who simply, cannot, throw anything away at the mere thought. I have a craft cupboard where I keep anything and everything from wool to broken china (to be used in mosaics). I might throw something away if you really can convince me I will not be using it again. I can throw stuff away - it's just a slow process. I read magazines and keep some of the recipes. Thus I won't be buying many magazines this year - in fact not one till the old pile has been finished and read and donated to the old age home or the local pre-school. And then only one magazine a month maximum.(You can't just drop such ahabit cold turkey. You might ignore your commands and go overboard. Thus I try one step at a time).

I am currently reading "Organized Simplicity" by TSh Oxenreider. In it she describes that we must look beyond the catch phrase in the buzzword "Simplicity" . It is so much more than pure decluttering.

A simple life entails aligning your priorities in your life with your values.

And living thus. I like this approach of hers. It seems sustainable. There is more for me to read.

That is what I hope to accomplish this year.

One day at a time.

I hope not to bore you as I keep you posted on my progress.
