1. It is officially fall here in North America...I realize not everyone who participates in the Hodgepodge lives in North America but if you do, what's your favorite memory of Summer 2011? If you're not in North America, what's your favorite memory of the season just ending on your side of the world?
We have just come through winter. Now our winters in South Africa are not the coldest a la UK/USA/Europe…we do get lowest temperatures of zero Celcius, and even some minus 5 degrees Celsius in winter. Zero Celsius is 32F in American language, so low twenties would be the coldest we get (at night time). Mostly in the days even in mid winter our temps increase to at least something like 10 degree Celsius – with some sun shining. However this winter some areas received snow at least 2x which is quite exceptional. Our winters are also not as long as those of the Northern Hemisphere. We start winters early May and they never seem to end here by end August, but luckily, all not-so-nice-things come to an end too!! In contrast our Springs are very very short – where I live we have about 2 weeks of Spring and then we jump into daytime summer only with slightly cooler evenings…but I don’t complain, Autumn(Fall) remains my favourite season – but summer still beats winter in my books!!!
2. Your favorite nut? You know I mean the edible kind, right?
I quite like nuts, the edibles and non-edibles as well sometimes…my kids and hubbie think I’m bit of a nut myself so guess that can be the reason…Anyway, edible nuts – very definitely cashews, but I also enjoy macademias and almonds….
3. What activity puts your sense of balance to the test?
Off the top of my head I would say skate-boarding – I used to be a big skateboarder as a teen, and then I fell off the board and had a big accident, never climbed back on and now if I just put my feet on the board I feel off-balance! However the other day we were doing a few yoga poses – the tree one – where you stand on one of your legs and balance – yes that showed me I need to work on this daily getting my toes to grip the ground and keep my balance ……..
4. How would you describe your sense of humor?
Quirky. Whatever that means. I always liked Bill Cosby – he would have me rolling on the floor even if I was only a teen at the time…I enjoy other humour too…the importance is to have a sense of humour and especially one to laugh at yourself!!!
5. September 28th is National Ask a Stupid Question Day...what's your stupid question?
Um….Why can't the world live mostly in peace? Stupid question. I know
6. Roller skates~hula hoop~jump rope...which activity would you most enjoy? Yes, you have to choose.
Would go for roller skates….I loved ice-skating and to me they are similar.........
7. What's your most sentimental possession?
Would be a photo/s of my mom and brother – both deceased now……..
8. Insert your own random thought here.
We’ve just spent a long weekend visiting long-last seen family and friends 1000 kilometers (about 800 miles) across the country. It was a wonderful trip and brought back some food memories of good times past. We visited my uncle, my mom’s youngest brother who was a semi-father to me all those years…he’s now 74, and a tad frail, and I hadn’t seen him in 5.5 years since my mom died…and I wanted to visit him again so we made the trip…he stays with his wife and daughter and her family, my cousin, same age, and I hadn’t seen her in almost 20 years…they are all doing very well, and it was just wonderful to see them all…
Sometimes I believe we take especially family (and old friends) for granted – and as we grow up we all grow apart distance wise, but if we don’t purposefully make a plant to go visit them, the years will pass speedily by and we’ll just sit around and “complain how time flies and how we’re all so busy and how we haven’t seen them all for a long time…” and next you know it you’re at a funeral wondering where those years went…I decided I am not going to wait for such, I am going to go visit the family and friends I have, the ones that mean a lot to me, albeit a small distance and time and effort on my side…and I am so glad I did…it was indeed wonderful to see them all again…Friends and family
Till next week, take care. One can scarecly believe it'salready end of September, 1st September was just the other day..........

We live a distance from much of our family and I agree. You really do have to make the time or one day you wake up and realize it has been months or years since you've seen them face to face. Glad you managed a visit with yours!
Summer beats winter in my book too : )
Great answers, it's nice to hear from someone in the southern hemisphere. My brother lived in South Africa for a couple of years but travelled home to work here each Winter (he's a musician) so for about four years him and his wife just had Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter....they both looked like ghosts!!
So glad you got to make the trip to see your family :) I agree with you, we have to make the time to see people. Otherwise, it is too easy to let years pass by, and we may even miss the opportunity entirely.
It's all about family and loved ones in the end, isn't it? We live in Germany and have kids/relatives in America and Australia. It's expensive traveling to see everyone, but sooo worth it.
Hi Joyce, thanks for the visit, indeed summer is better than the intense cold......
Sterlingsop - wow. I can imagine following summer around the globe but following winter is almost depressing.....have a great Fall......
Thanks for the visit Aimee...yes time flies and soon we realise many years have passed before we actually have made that step.....
