1. Do you like chilli? Red or white? Beans or no beans? Spice or no spice? Toppings?
I don’t eat any chilli(s) except some finely chopped red chili in homemade chicken soup when I have bad winter flu....
2. Red~Orange~Gold...your favorite fall color?
Difficult to choose...the thing about Fall colours is they all blend together to present the true Fall beauty. I like all those colours together, not necessarily one on it's own. MY fave colours are green/blue and bluey green
3. Who did you idolize when you were growing up?
Well for me it would be a sports hero and or musician
A South African rugby star called Naas Botha. Also John McEnroe to a huge extent, I was crazy over him, Stefan Edberg, a lesser extent Ivan Lendle . Till today my biggest idol is Bruce Springsteen.
Now that I’m grown up my mom would be at the top of my list and Bruce 2nd.
But Naas I still have a soft spot for, I met him on my 39th or 40th birthday, he signed his autobio book for me which I’d had since I was about 18 years old, and he was more than I had ever heard people ever say about him. (In other words he really came across as a nice guy which is great when you meet your hero almost 25 years down the line and can see he is truly worth being 'your hero' as it were and not a jackass..... )
I’m dying to meet the Boss.....I would give a lot to meet him...or even see him live...the guy's getting on now....but he still rock's in my eyes....
4. When was the last time you did something 'arts and craftsy'? Share please.
Way too long ago. 4 years ago probably. I did material painting. A few tablecloths. I will look for a few photos. We had this wonderful teacher, she was a true artist herself, she didn’t believe in ‘colouring in the lines’ on material, she painted like the true artist she was and taught us shading and light and all that stuff. I was always impressed with my creations, all assisted by her. She died of cancer 4 years ago and I’m still battling to get anything artsy and crafty done ever since. I would like to start mosaics. Now all I do is write sometimes....(some poetry)
5. What's a place that makes you really nervous?
Any high place. I can’t handle rollercoasters and high buildings.
6. Horse back riding...yay or nay (neigh?)
Yay please.....
7. What is your favorite cliche?
"Life doesn't fall from the sky. It takes hard work..."
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I enjoy Hodge Podge, at some stage I will start blogging more, it’s just been so busy with my boss off on sick leave for 6 weeks, I have a lot on my plate right now. Which then means the thoughts don’t flow......
I am a very positive type of person. Don’t get me wrong, I have been in the deepest depths of depression, but somehow, with the help of my hubbie and the Grace and love of God, I was able to recover, albeit a slow journey lasting more than 6 months. But since then, especially, I have "become" a positive person. I believe being positive and thus happy is a choice. I make that choice everyday. But I had to go through a lot of soul –searching and self analysis to get there. And my positivity often comes across as blase perhaps – it isn’t. It is deep rooted in the belief that:
- You are what you think/believe you are
- You can achieve only what you think/believe you can achieve
- I really don’t give 2 cents as to what anyone besides say my dear ones think of me
- I am what/who I am- everyone can improve on bad habits, and that I will gladly do - but as for the rest - I am who I am take it or leave it
These beliefs have assisted me in my life as opposed to negating my life. I have been like this since pretty young. I doubt I even knew what peer pressure was merely because I let it roll over me like water off a duck’s back. Yes there were times we couldn’t afford new clothes and I wore school uniforms because my home clothes weren’t so trendy. Yes I couldn’t go out with girl friends because my mom didn’t have money for movies. Yes as a teenager I probably felt like I missed out on life sometimes and probably did. But even then I stayed positive about the direction my life was taking because I knew I would get somewhere. My life experiences at that early age made me determined to work and study hard and make a decent life for myself and with the Grace of God I have done that. Thus I am contented because I am grateful for what I have achieved. And for whom I have loved. And all the other values my mom taught me. Like being positive and appreciating your life because there are people with much worse lives out there every single day. I'm not worried about what I don't have, I am content with exactly that which (and who) I do have....
Finally, you are never what people classify you as or what box they put you in. You are never the job you have (be it a fancy job or a lesser paid job). You are never the house you own or the clothes and jewellery you wear. These are all outside things that might get people to think you’re fancy or even not so well off - but truly to me, they are never nor do they define the you. The real you is the part inside you, the heart that beats with love and compassion and passion – the you your friends and family will miss one day, the you that keeps you company in the dark hours of the night. The you you want to be, can be and are every single day. If you believe and if you allow yourself to be. To me it’s that simple.
And that's who I am . Welcome here
LG
